What is coaching?

A collaborative, individualized relationship between client and coach. A coach is here to unpack mental blocks, clarify direction through intentional guided reflection, and mindfully observe each client’s physical, emotional and mental health. This is a partnership that only works through mutual trust and embracing the journey. Parts of this process may be challenging, but coaches can offer insight and ideas that the client might never have seen, illuminating new opportunities for growth.

What defines a “leader”?

Leaders exist in many forms and in many spaces – we are leaders in our households, families, jobs, and communities. Leadership coaching accentuates the characteristics the most effective leaders have – positivity, strong communication, passion, commitment, innovation and collaboration. The challenge we will take on is how to tap into those traits most effectively.

How does coaching differ from therapy?

In our coaching agreements, we specifically say that coaching is not therapy. Coaching focuses on visualizing success, present issues and creating new habits and practices to help the client get there. Therapy emphasizes psychopathology, emotions and the past to help understand their present situations – and provides the client with skills to manage their emotions or past issues.

What is the process?

I always find it best to start with an introductory session between client and coach to get to know each other, and to see if we’re a good fit. This is a personal process, so our energies and personalities working well is key. Otherwise, clients may not feel comfortable opening up. Then upon agreement, coaching sessions can take place depending on the clients’ needs and preferences.

Do I have to be an executive?

You don’t have to be an executive for me to coach you––as long as you are committed and open to the process, that’s all that matters. Commitment to the process is key.

What is the typical timeline for leadership coaching?

There is no typical timeline – but there’s definitely a minimum time frame in order for the client and coach to be able to get into the heart of the issues and sometimes, it may take time to get there. Coaching engagements can go anywhere from six months to a year.

What is The Leadership Circle Assessment Tool?

The Leadership Circle Profile is a leadership assessment that measures and provides leaders feedback through the lens of the Universal Model. It is the only instrument that measures the two primary leadership domains – Creative Competencies and Reactive Tendencies – and integrates this information so that key opportunities for leadership development immediately rise to the surface.
